On Wednesday 27th September we explored the history of York in 6 paintings! We heard from Lauren Marshall, Director of the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall who told us about which building in York had Yorkshire’s first public toilets and other fascinating stories; through the collections of one of the city’s oldest buildings.

Art Unlocked is an online event series brought to you by Art UK in collaboration with Bloomberg Philanthropies. Each week, different museum and gallery curators and directors from across the UK deliver a 30-minute talk on selected works from their collection.

The Merchant Adventurers’ Hall is an independent museum which gets no external support with all income generated going back into the upkeep of our ancient building. Therefore, if you would like to donate to the Hall; all donations are greatly appreciated. Please click here to donate.

We are bringing together the nation’s art on one platform for the world to see.
